2026 Spring Conference

The 2026 Spring Conference has sessions for everyone, PreK all the way to adult learning. Read this note from Christine Quisley the Vice President of Higher Education for the MCTM, about what she's looking forward to at the conference.

Hello everyone, I’d like to introduce myself, I’m Christine Quisley the Vice President of Higher Education for the MCTM. I am excited to connect with colleagues who share a commitment to strengthening mathematics education across our state and region. I currently serve as an Assistant Professor of Education at Southwest Minnesota State University, where I teach Elementary Math Methods I and II as well as other Elementary Content classes. I work closely with future educators as they develop strong pedagogical foundations in mathematics. My work is grounded in supporting teacher candidates as they deepen both their content knowledge and their confidence in teaching math effectively.

As we gather at the spring conference in Duluth, I look forward to meeting higher education faculty from institutions across Minnesota and neighboring states. This convening is a valuable opportunity for us to learn from one another, share what we are seeing in our programs, and discuss the evolving landscape of mathematics and math education. I am eager to hear about your experiences, your research and teaching interests, and your perspectives on how we can collectively support high‑quality mathematics teaching and learning statewide. See you in Duluth!

MCTM is seeking applications for a Social Media Editor

See below for a job description.

MCTM Social Media Editor

The MCTM Social Media Editor should have an understanding of social media platforms, an eye for design, and a desire to engage with the Minnesota mathematics educator community. Some familiarity with the MCTM organization is preferred.

The Social Media Editor is a non-voting member of the MCTM Board. They work collaboratively with the Communications Editor to design graphics/announcements that are then posted to our website, Facebook, X, Threads, Instagram, BlueSky, and LinkedIn. MCTM also has a TikTok account. The Social Media Editor takes care of scheduling posts to all social media platforms. Along with the Communications Editor, the Social Media Editor maintains open communication among all of the Board committees to make sure that their work is appropriately communicated to our membership. In addition, the Social Media Editor writes articles for our monthly publication, MathBits, and reaches out to others to write articles as well.

The Social Media Editor attends three in-person Saturday board meetings per year and attends the Spring Conference In Duluth.

This is a stipend position.  We are seeking applications by the middle of April with interviews in late April. This position would begin in May 2026.

Research shows that there are many benefits to incorporating questions into your mathematics instruction and centering student learning around rigorous inquiry.

  • Student engagement and participation improves in classrooms that encourage and reward questioning.

  • Student motivation and learning increases when students are given the opportunity to ask questions of each other and the teacher.

  • Students can monitor their own learning when they know how to pose thoughtful questions that encourage them to consider multiple strategies and approaches and to challenge their thinking and that of their classmates.

  • Students who actively engage in asking and answering questions are more likely to understand and retain complex concepts.

  • Students who learn in an environment that encourages and celebrates questioning improve their academic performance.

  • Student willingness and ability to ask questions better prepares them for college and for the workplace.
